Employee Altercation At Malibu High School Prompts LASD Response

MALIBU, CA — Two cafeteria workers got into an altercation at Malibu High School Thursday morning, prompting the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to respond.

The employees were working when they got into a verbal argument at about 9:30 a.m., an LASD official told Patch. Several units were sent to the school, he said.

There were no weapons involved in the altercation, according to police. No arrests were made and students are safe, according to LASD.

The Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District is investigating the altercation, which may result in employee discipline, Miller said in a letter to parents.

The situation was handled without disrupting students or school program, he said.

Dear Malibu Middle and Malibu High Families,

At Malibu Middle School and Malibu High School, we take our responsibility for student, staff, and community safety very seriously and are reaching out to our community. Before you receive news from individuals who were not directly involved with a situation at Malibu High School today, I would like to inform our community of proceedings on campus. There was a report of an argument or dispute between cafeteria staff workers. Law enforcement was notified of the situation and officers from the Lost Hills Sherriff’s office responded. No students were involved or in any danger at any time.

The situation was handled from start to finish without incident and without disruption to the students or school program. All persons on campus were able to proceed safely through the day.

The school district will continue to investigate this incident. After a complete investigation, the situation may result in employee discipline so we are not able to provide additional details. We appreciate the response and professionalism of our staff and law enforcement in resolving this situation without incident.
