Local Student Shows Artistic Side

Theodore Helm is praised for thinking outside of the box.

Theodore Helm, a fourth-grader at Webster Elementary School, won the Best in Show prize at February's local Student Art Show.

Helm is a student in Mrs. Rubin's class and won for his sculpture of 45 “paper fortunes” individually colored and with fortunes written for each number one's choice.

One judges told Theodore that they admired the sculpture because it demonstrated an ability to think differently.

The arts show was held in early February at the Michael Landon Center at Malibu Bluffs Park. The art submissions were judged by an art panel of 3 local artists of prominence in Malibu, Dr. Alessandra DeClario, Peter Tuley, and Julie Van Zandt May.
