MALIBU, CA — Many have used the coronavirus pandemic to take up a new hobby or learn a new skill, and poetry is no exception. Three upcoming workshops hosted by Malibu poet laureate John Struloeff aims to help residents learn all about the art form.
The first workshop focuses on writing poetry and requires attendees to RSVP online in advance. The workshop is scheduled to be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 16.
Another workshop will be offered on Feb. 13. This event, titled "Caffeinated Verse," focuses on the theme of love and relationships. Like the January workshop, hopeful attendees must RSVP in advance to attend the event.

The city's poet laureate has also put out a call to community members for poetry submissions that could be included in a citywide anthology of poems titled "Who We Are." Writers are encouraged to focus their work on one of two facets of their lives: Poems that depict the contributor's life in Malibu, or poems that describe a previous time and setting in the contributor's life.
The city said submission requirements and a submission form will be posted on its website in the coming weeks. Residents can sign up to receive E-notifications about the project by selecting "Call to Artist."
