Malibu Restaurant Reopens After 6 COVID Cases

MALIBU, CA — Moonshadows, a beachside Malibu restaurant serving a fusion of Asian, Italian, and American cuisines, has reopened after six employees tested positive for COVID-19, the Malibu Surfside News reports.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health lists public establishments and educational settings where three or more people have tested positive for the virus. Moonshadows was listed as having six cases, including three “non-confirmed symptomatic staff,” which means demonstrated symptoms of COVID-19 but it has not been lab-confirmed.

Owners Andrea Bullo and Franco Simplicio told the Surfside Newsthat they filed a report with the health department when they heard about the positive cases, and closed their restaurant down for three days to do a deep clean of the facility.

Simplicio said that the restaurant cleaned and disinfected the restaurant, and quarantined staff members who had worked with the employees. He said that he also ensured all employees got tested.

Bullo said that as of Friday, all employees have completed their quarantine, and the restaurant can re-open.

“Our restaurants are probably safer than any others now that we have done even extra disinfecting, and we are constantly disinfecting, only serving outdoors and using all precautions while exceeding what is recommended by the health department,” Simplicio said.
