Malibu Shooting Victim Identified, Investigation Ongoing

The coroner's office has released the man who was shot Friday near Geoffrey's.

MALIBU, CA — Coroner’s officials have released the name of a 29-year-old man shot and killed in Malibu Friday night.

On Sunday, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Daniel Hernandez of El Monte.

Deputies from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station responded 4:25 p.m. Friday to a shots heard call in the 27500 block of Pacific Coast Highway, near Winding Way, just west of Geoffrey’s Restaurant and Escondido Beach. Lt. Brandon Dean of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told reporters Friday that Hernandez was found in a pickup truck suffering at least one gunshot wound to his upper torso.

The shooting appeared to have taken place inside the driveway of a private residence, Dean said. Hernandez was pronounced dead on the scene.

No arrests have been made as of Monday morning.

There is no known motive for the shooting, according to a sheriff’s department statement. An investigation is ongoing.
