By Rabbi Levi Cunin
The entire community joins me in extending our sincerest condolences to the Adamson family on the untimely and tragic passing of Grant Adamson of blessed memory. In addition, I join the many others who are praying that his wife, Terry Adamson and their daughters, Lauren and Megan have Divine Intervention bringing them a speedy healing.
Grant, a member of Malibu's founding family, the Adamsons, made his life one of giving in ways too numerous to mention. For example, as a founding member of Pepperdine University's Crest Associates, he helped fund scholarships for needy students.  We can hope that Grant Adamson’s generosity will inspire others to support good causes, for years to come.Â

Grant's tragic death reminds us the frailty and sensitivity of human life and, of course, the need to re-channel our thinking about the true meaning of life. In a tragic time like this, I find myself asking again and again, why? My faith does not discourage questions, but will any answer suffice?
This I do know, a little bit of light illuminates much darkness. This Friday eve, I will be including in my weekly email a special request for the women: When you light your Shabbat candles, and you close your eyes and pray, please keep the well-being of Terry, Lauren and Megan in your prayers. If you are not among those who light the Shabbat candles, I invite you to join us in this, this evening, in this special mitzvah (good deed) of bringing light into this world!
