Meet an “Amazing” Who Lives in a World of Sequins and Glitter

Anthony Colombo, 80, is the master craftsman behind those astonishing Mardi Gras floats.

Anthony Colombo, 80, is the master craftsman behind those astonishing Mardi Gras floats, and has been for the past 40+ years! He’s responsible for creating the wire frames in all their intricate detail that will hold the fabric, sequins and other bling that make up the fantastically decorated costumes on the floats. It’s a full time, all year round job, just to create what’s needed for one year’s floats. His daughter designs and makes the costumes by hand. Other family members are involved as well. Anthony has no plans to retire. He loves keeping busy and can’t imagine simply sitting in front of the TV all day as so many of his friends do. That's a good thing, because Mardi Gras wouldn’t be Mardi Gras without him!
