Lois Austin, at 80, is every bit as in love with beach volleyball as she was when she started playing 60 years ago. She still plays three days a week, several games at a go, despite having had three knee surgeries. There truly is no stopping Lois.

Her teammates are easily 20 to 30 years younger, yet no one fusses about her age, including her. They value her ability, which is tops, age not even a factor. Lois played throughout her years as a lifeguard secretary for the City of Newport Beach and part-time worker for the city’s utility department, before retiring.
