PCH Reopened After 2 Brush Fires Break Out In Malibu

Two fires broke out Saturday afternoon in Malibu Bluffs Park, and Super Scooper planes were called in to help battle the blazes.

MALIBU, CA — With the help of Super Scooper planes, firefighters stopped two brush fires from burning out of control Saturday in Malibu Bluffs Park.

The late afternoon blazes burned on the beach side of the park on Pacific Coast Highway, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Parts of Pacific Coast Highway were closed, and motorists were advised to to stay away from the area until lanes reopened at about 7:30 p.m.

The fires were reported at about 4:30 p.m. in the park at at 24250 Pacific Coast Highway. Crews mounted an aggressive effort hold the fires to a combined acre and a half. The flames were in medium brush and were spreading at a moderate rate and two Super Scooper aircraft aided in stopping the fires, officials said.

At 5:30 p.m., firefighters reported forward progress had been stopped on fires estimated at one-acre and a half-acre. At about 6:30 p.m. they reported the fire was out.
