Renowned 'Lonely Planet' Travel Writers Featured at Next Malibu Library Speakers Series
The writers will be discussing the new "Lonely Planet Travel Anthology" book.

MALIBU, CA -– Travel writers from The Lonely Planet will be featured in a panel discussion at the next Malibu Library Speakers Series.
Don George, the legendary best-selling author of “Lonely Planet’s Guide to Travel Writing” and “The Way of Wanderlust,” will moderate the forum. These renowned writers will be reading from the new book,“The Lonely Planet Travel Anthology: True Stories from the World’s Best Writers.”
“The next Library Speaker Series brings some incredibly talented travel authors for The Lonely Planet, including a Malibu resident, who will read from ‘The Lonely Planet Travel Anthology,’ share their adventures, and bring the audience on a journey around the world,” Mayor Lou La Monte said. “I am very proud of the Library Speaker Series’ unique and engaging presentations that you won’t see anywhere else.”

George currently works as editor-at-large and book review columnist at National Geographic Traveler. He is also the former travel editor at Lonely Planet, “The San Francisco Examiner” and “San Francisco Chronicle.” George has received a Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year award from the Society of American Travel Writers and is the co-founder of the annual Book Passage Travel Writers and Photographers Conference.

- James Dorsey is a fellow of the Explorers’ Club and a former director of the Adventurers’ Club. He is a travel consultant to Brown & Hudson of London with stories in numerous travel anthologies as well as the “Los Angeles Times,” “Christian Science Monitor” and other publications. Dorsey is the recipient of 15 SOLAS awards from Travelers’ Tales.
- Bridget Crocker, a Malibu resident, is a contributing author to the Travelers’ Tales series “Best Women’s Travel Writing” and Lonely Planet guidebooks. An international river expedition leader and guide, Crocker has published stories in “Outside,” “Men’s Journal,” “National Geographic Adventure,” “Vela,” “Paddler,” and others.
- Torre DeRoche is the author of two travel memoirs, “Love with a Chance of Drowning” and “The Worrier’s Guide to the End of the World,” due out in September 2017. She has written for “The Atlantic,” “The Guardian Travel,” “The Sydney Morning Herald,” “Emirates,” and two Lonely Planet travel anthologies. Her blog, FearfulAdventurer.com, has been profiled in “National Geographic” and was one of Viator’s Top Travel Blogs of 2015.
“The Lonely Planet Travel Anthology” was released in November 2016 and features 34 original tales by some of the world’s foremost writers, including TC Boyle, Pico Iyer, Jan Morris, Alexander McCall Smith, Ann Patchett and Natalie Baszile, as well as Dorsey, Crocker and DeRoche.
The next Malibu Library Speakers Series will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24 at the Malibu City Hall.
