Rip Currents, Sneaker Waves, High Surf at the Beach This Weekend
Grab your surf boards but keep the kids out of the water - the National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory.
MALIBU, CA - Expect rip currents, sneaker waves and high surf starting Friday and through the weekend.
The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory. It goes into effect at 9 a.m. Friday and runs until noon Sunday.
- Surf is expected to build to 4 to 8 feet Friday, and then peak at 5 to 10 feet Friday night through Saturday night. Surf will begin to subside slowly Sunday.
- The large surf may cause minor beach erosion and strong rip currents that will create a risk of ocean drowning.
- Sneaker waves can suddenly overrun previously dry beaches and jetties around the time of high tide.
- Surf will be highest on exposed west and northwest facing beaches. Local sets to 12 feet are possible near Ventura Harbor.
The NWS reminds beachgoers that if you’re caught in a rip current, swim parallel to shore until you are free of the powerful current. Always swim near a Lifeguard.
