A broken water main opened up a sinkhole on Malibu Canyon Road Saturday morning, officials said.

MALIBU, CA — A water main break Saturday resulted in a sinkhole that shut down northbound lanes of Malibu Canyon Road while workers repair it, authorities said.

The damage was first reported at 9:25 a.m. north of Pacific Coast Highway, Sgt. Jim Braden of the Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff's Station said.

The sinkhole measured about four-feet in diameter and the roadway was immediately shut down, Braden said. The shutdown is between Civic Center Way and Malibu Knolls Road.
