Sinkhole Shutdown Of Malibu Street Continues

A stretch of Civic Center Way remained closed Saturday as workers tended to a six-foot sinkhole.

MALIBU, CA — A stretch of Civic Center Way near Pepperdine University in Malibu remained closed Saturday as workers tended to a six-foot sinkhole.

The sinkhole was reported about 4:40 p.m. Friday on Civic Center Way near Vista Pacifica, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Malibu/Lost Hills Station.

Civic Center Way between Winter Canyon Road and Webb Way was shut to traffic as crews from the county's Department of Public Works responded to the scene and began using a tractor to "dig out" the sinkhole, according to Sgt. James Braden.

Residents of the condominiums on Civic Center Way were being allowed access around the repair work area, according to city officials.

No injuries were reported, and no vehicles were stuck in the sinkhole, Braden said.
