SOS! We Need to Teach Ethics In School. Now!

Nothing is more important for a future generation. It's too late for the present

Forget compulsory foreign language. Who does that help? Forget geography, mathematics, and phys Ed if you must. Let’s have an “everything else can go” sale. The survival of our democracy and our civility won’t be dependent on our ability to add numbers together or speak kindergarten level Spanish. It won’t even come from knowing the capitals of all the states. We need to prioritize something much more fundamental to our survival as a species. It should be a state of emergency to teach Ethics in our schools; make it compulsory from 1st grade through 12th grade.

Is there not one institution that holds ethics and integrity as a pinnacle virtue? It’s not our religious institutions (lol). It’s not our government (snowballs chance in hell). Actually, it may only be competitive golf. Golf is the only culture I know of that upholds an intolerable standard to cheating. Golfers are expected to call penalties on themselves, and they often do. A cheater in competitive golf will be scorned by his peers like an animal abuser. Bravo golf!

Conditions are beyond unbelievable. The total disregard for honesty, integrity, and decency in this country is breathtaking. We may think it’s a Trump thing but Trump is only a reflection. Do you really think Trump would even get a reality TV show (thanks Mark Burnett) let alone be selected to run the world, in a country that valued honesty and integrity? There isn’t even a vague attempt to be truthful. Our politicians (at least half of them) are TOTAL liars. Sports is filled with cheaters, both the players and the team management.

I trust no one (anymore). I don’t trust polls, studies (scientific?). I don’t trust anything I hear from anyone who has an agenda. Yes. It has come to that. It’s that bad!

We care about “winning”. Actually, we care that society thinks we are “winners”. By far more than any other time in my lifetime we define “winning” as having a lot of money. We care about money. We care about driving a fancy car.

Atticus Finch is dead. Jesus is dead. The Golden rule is dead.

Is there anyone left who can look themselves in the mirror?

If you don’t have integrity you have .....,,,NOTHING.
