2 Arrested, Sergeant Injured After Pursuit In Manhattan Beach
An Automatic License Plate Reader alerted authorities to a stolen car, and the man and woman inside were considered "armed and dangerous."
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach police arrested a man and woman Wednesday after an Automatic License Plate Reader alerted authorities that a car was stolen and the occupants were considered "armed and dangerous," leading to a pursuit that injured a patrol sergeant.
The license plate was scanned about 12:50 p.m. when the car entered Manhattan Beach on Marine Avenue, the Manhattan Beach Police Department news release said. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver sped off, according to MBPD Sgt. Tim Zins.
A sergeant was pursuing the carjacking suspects when he crashed his patrol car near the intersection of Oak Avenue and 35th Street. He was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, Zins said.
