Controversial Emoji House For Sale In Manhattan Beach
The listing says the Manhattan Beach duplex has gone through "various upgrades" within the last year, but that doesn't include the emojis.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Controversy has a price — in Manhattan Beach, it'll cost you $1,749,000. This unique duplex in the El Porto neighborhood was dubbed the "Emoji House" after it was painted bright pink and adorned with two huge, goofy emojis with long eyelashes amid a neighbor spat.
One neighbor, Susan Wieland, believes current homeowner Kathryn Kidd got the emojis painted on the house to spite her after Wieland reported Kidd to the city for using the space for short-term rentals. Kidd was fined $4,000 because short-term rentals are illegal in Manhattan Beach, Fox 11 reported.
Kidd has denied all allegations and says the paint job was intended to make people smile, the news station reported.

The emojis were the talk of the town, as homeowners in the neighborhood were concerned about decreasing home values. Some went so far as to air their grievances to city officials, who then issued a statement that said Manhattan Beach doesn't prohibit paintings, murals or graphic displays on residential homes.
But El Porto may be in luck — perhaps the new owner will paint the house a more muted tone.
