MANHATTAN BEACH, CA —The Manhattan Beach Police Department will be conducting a DUI and driver's license checkpoint on Friday, May May 7 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety, increase the awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deter impaired driving and unlicensed driving.

"The intent of the checkpoint is to encourage sober designated drivers," MBPD said in a statement. "By publicizing these educational and enforcement efforts, the Manhattan Beach Police Department believes that drinking and driving and driving while unlicensed will be reduced.

Local law enforcement hopes that their "Zero Tolerance" approach will send a clear message to those who still don't heed the warning to designate a sober driver before a celebration begin.

"Simply put, 'If you are over the legal limit, you will be arrested,'" officials said.
