El Segundo To El Porto: Manhattan Beach Police Help Nab Suspect
The driver of a reportedly stolen car ditches it, flees on foot into the El Porto neighborhood in North Manhattan Beach. He soon gives up.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The Manhattan Beach Police Department helped apprehend the driver of a suspected stolen car last night around 10:54 p.m. when El Segundo police were pursuing the vehicle on Vista Del Mar heading into Manhattan Beach, said Tim Zins, community affairs sergeant and public information officer for MBPD. The action took place in the El Porto area of North Manhattan Beach.
Manhattan Beach Police officers set up spike strips at 45th Street and Highland Avenue in an attempt to stop the vehicle, said Zins. After hitting the spike strips, the driver turned east on 45th Street and when he got to Crest Drive, he fled on foot.
A containment area was set up by police and a canine search was about to begin when the suspect gave himself up and was taken into custody without further incident. El Segundo police were alerted to the reportedly stolen vehicle in their city by an Automated License Plate Reader.
