The letter writer also offers thanks to first responders, healthcare workers and more via a Happier New Year message.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Editor's Note: Longtime community member and Manhattan Beach resident Wayne Powell writes a letter to the editor.
As a longtime community volunteer, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to all frontline workers and volunteers serving our community, especially during the unprecedented holiday season. I know firsthand how they improve our residents’ quality of life and public safety.
I encourage everyone to make a difference and volunteer their time and resources to our many outstanding nonprofit community organizations and our exemplary schools. Also, please patronize our local independent businesses and restaurants, especially those that support our local non-profit charitable organizations and schools.
