Franklin, Fournell Fight For Third Manhattan Beach Council Seat

Votes keep coming in for Joe Franklin, who has pulled within 160 votes of Grettel Fournell, who, if she maintains her lead, gains a seat.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Joe Franklin is within 160 votes of Grettel Fournell in the race for the third open seat on the Manhattan Beach City Council in the Nov. 3rd election. Today's tally of provisional and mail-in ballots gave Franklin 6,880 votes at 14.63 % while Fournell, who has lead from the beginning of the vote count, has 7,040 votes at 14.97%.

Incumbents Steve Napolitano and Mayor Richard Montgomery have all but secured re-election to their seats. Napolitano has 23.23% of the vote with 10,929 and Montgomery has 19.21 % with 9,036 votes.

It continues to appear that the remaining three council candidates—Phoebe Lyons, Mark Burton and Chaz Flemmings are too far behind to capture a seat. Lyons has 13.03% of the vote with 6,131; Burton has 11.85% with 5,574, and Flemmings has 3.08% with 1,447 votes.

Napolitano and Montgomery join council members Hildy Stern and Suzanne Hadley on council, while the third and final seat remains up in the air until all votes are counted.
