Golf Cart Parade Raises Funds For MB Police And Fire Departments

The festive processional brought in $1,000 and lots of smiles.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The fourth of July golf cart parade proved to be a huge success, according to the event's organizer.

"We had over 25 carts which was impressive considering the majority of folks were out of town," parade coordinator Shawn Giaconi told Patch. "So the ones that were able to come, came with decorated carts filled with fun riders."

The colorful event raised exactly $1,000 for the Manhattan Beach Police and Fire Departments; with $500 being donated to each.

"Joe Franklin, our city council member, donated the 'thank you to MBPD & MBFD' signs," Giaconi said. "He's a great guy."

The parade began at Pacific Elementary School, rolled through downtown Manhattan Beach to 8th Street in Hermosa Beach, then turned around and headed to Bruce's Beach, winding up at Metlox Plaza.

Giaconi's next project is to work with the city to create a big turnout for the 2nd annual Halloween parade.

"I want to include prizes for the decorated rides," Giaconi said. "And I would like to include all electric vehicles (bikes & scooters) so it could be a super event."
