MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The hail that fell throughout Manhattan Beach yesterday was a rare sight, indeed. A few residents and locals sent us their images.

Angel Gonzalez' daughter was in awe of the white surprise and Angel got a great shot of all the white on his balcony next to succulents and vines that prefer our typical Southern California weather.

Tony Gialketsis of Manhattan Beach used the stuff to quickly make a small snowman complete with accompanying beachy sea shells. Hey, this is Manhattan Beach!

And just so you know, according to National Geographic, "Hail is a type of precipitation, or water in the atmosphere. Hail is formed when drops of water freeze together in the cold upper regions of thunderstorm clouds." The site also reports, "A piece of solid precipitation that is fewer than 5 millimeters in diameter is not called a hailstone. It is called graupel."

So, maybe we had graupel and hail in Manhattan Beach!!!
