High Surf Advisory In Manhattan Beach Brings Rip Currents, Waves
The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory in effect through Tuesday. Read about what to expect so you can stay safe.
MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A high surf advisory is in effect through Tuesday, Jan. 19 in Manhattan Beach, according to the National Weather Service. A large swell will bring surf of 6 to 10 feet by Monday afternoon and surf will slowly diminish by Tuesday evening.
The largest surf will occur across exposed west-facing beaches with dangerous rip currents.
"There is an increased risk of drowning," NWS officials said. "There will be dangerous rip currents they can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore."
People are urged to stay out of the water due to the dangerous surf conditions or stay near an occupied lifeguard tower. "Stay off rock jetties as they can be deadly in such conditions when waves break over them," officials said.

"If caught in a rip current, relax and float," officials said. "Don`t swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."
