For their report, Stacker gathered data from Wallethub, which compared all U.S. beach towns. The ratings were based on six categories—affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life, according to Stacker.

"The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor," Stacker reports. The top featured towns were primarily located in California and Florida.
