Manhattan Beach Hockey Player Joins University Of Michigan Team

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA —Former Los Angeles Jr. King ice hockey player and Manhattan Beach resident Brendan Brisson joins 8 other incoming freshmen at the University of Michigan for the 2020-2021 NCAA Division I season. The 18-year-old forward played the last two seasons at Shattuck-St. Mary’s prep school in Minnesota, began his youth hockey career with the Jr. Kings as a Mite and helped the program’s Bantam AAA1 team capture a Pacific District championship in 2016, according to the LA Jr. Kings website.

“Being a part of the Jr. Kings family gave me the opportunity to develop my game thanks to the support from all the great coaches and teammates I’ve had along the way,” said Brisson. “It’s such a rewarding environment to learn and improve and I’m extremely fortunate to have grown, both as a player and a person, through those years of experience.”

In 2018-2019, he played six games for the USHL’s Green Bay Gamblers in 2018-19 and then joined the Chicago Steel for his draft season. His statistics for play with the Jr. Kings, Shattuck-St Mary's prep school, the United States Hockey League's Gamblers and Steel can be seen here.

Wolverine assistant head coach Kris Mayotte said of Brisson: "Brendan is a very talented offensive threat who has great offensive creativity and a knack for scoring. He joins Michigan after being named the USHL Rookie of the Year and he was second in the league in points. Brendan is a consistent threat that makes the players around him better. His game has taken off over the past couple of years, and we are excited to have him continue his development as a Wolverine."

The Wolverines have won nine national titles, most recently in 1998. Brendan is the son of NHL agent Pat Brisson.
