MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The auction that "resembles our hometown spirit" is in full swing now through Sunday, Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. Put on by the volunteers of the Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair, the auction, whose proceeds will go to fund scholarships and grants, is "from the community and for the community," and replaces the annual Fair held the first weekend in October, said Joe Marcy, MB Hometown Fair president and MB resident, told Manhattan Beach Patch.

"There’s something for everyone," said Marcy. "We have fantastic packages from local businesses, unique arts and crafts from local vendors and much more!" The auction features more than 50 packages to bid on as the volunteer Hometown Fair Board of Directors attempts to raise money to give back to the groups that usually host Fair booths [offering games, food] to raise funds.

"We’re distributing at least $10,000 back to the community," said Marcy. "We understand that the pandemic has made it difficult for non-profits to fundraise. It’s brought new challenges and unexpected costs. We’re doing what we can to help. Supporting our community has been our mission for 48 years. So please be generous when you bid on our silent auction. We can’t wait to announce the grant recipients Virtual Fair Weekend."
