Manhattan Beach Optometrist Lester Silverman Dies In Jamaica
He died when he was caught in a rip current in Jamaica, where he was vacationing with his brother and friends. He was 64.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA – Lester Silverman, a beloved Manhattan Beach optometrist, died Tuesday when he was caught in a rip current. Silverman was vacationing in Jamaica with his brother and friends when he died, according to The Beach Reporter. He was 64.
He's survived by his wife, Angela, and two children, Sophia and A.J., The Beach Reporter saod.
The news of his passing quickly spread on social media, as many residents mourned his loss. Silverman's office was Look! Optometry, and he was involved in the Manhattan Beach Rotary Club, according to The Beach Reporter.

“I’m kind of still in shock, it’s hard to believe,” friend, patient and former Mayor Jim Aldinger told The Beach Reporter. “I would stop in his office and say, ‘Hi!’ It’s going to be really kind of difficult to go by there and not have him around.”
Silverman will be remembered as an engaged citizen – he seemed to attend almost every function and fundraiser in town – and an optometrist that cared deeply about his patients, according to The Beach Reporter.

Silverman graduated from Leadership Manhattan Beach and served on the city’s Parking and Public Improvements Commission and Library Commission. He made a bid for the Manhattan Beach Unified school board in 2007, The Beach Reporter said.
