Manhattan Beach Pier Light Globes Are Back But Dark For Now
Astute observers of the Manhattan Beach Pier noticed that the traditional Globe lights on the pier disappeared during the holiday season.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Manhattan Beach Pier lovers and sharp eyes may have noticed that the Globe-shaped lights that were removed for refurbishment have been returned. But they aren't lighting up just yet.
So just is and has been going on with these lights? Former Manhattan Beach Public Works Director Stephanie Katsouleas told Manhattan Beach Patch, "With the holiday lights up over December, we took this opportunity to refurbish the globes and cages with minimal lighting disruption to users of the pier. The cages are due back from being powder coated soon and they will be reinstalled before the other lights come down. We were hoping their absence would just blend in with all the other decorations."
The holiday lights on the pier are strung above the pier rails most of the length of the pier and then the Roundhouse is crowned as the piece de resistance with a glowing Christmas tree shape atop its iconic roof. These lights managed to illuminate the pier enough while the globe lights were absent.

Many Manhattan Beach residents, especially the photographers, noticed the missing Globe lights, commenting on their absence on social media. The globes are glass and a metal cage surrounds them and helps hold them in place.
According to city staff, the newly installed Globes will be able to be different colors to enhance special events.
