Manhattan Beach Police Prepared For Chauvin Verdict

The MBPD has prepared an operational plan in case of civil unrest and will support peaceful demonstrations.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA —As the country awaits the verdict in the Derek Chauvin murder trial,the Manhattan Beach Police Department has announced a plan in case of local protests.

“With the recent concern regarding national law enforcement-related events, the Manhattan Beach Police Department would like to assure the community that we have prepared an operational plan which outlines our intent to protect our residents and visitors from any crime as well as supporting peaceful demonstrations," MBPD said in a statement.

The plan will enable the Manhattan Beach Police Department to provide a safe environment for the community and businesses, while also providing assistance to neighboring law enforcement agencies requesting help in the event of any civil unrest, riotous behavior, or other disruption.

"We have been in contact with our local and state partners to ensure we establish communication to facilitate and streamline any requests for assistance or other matters," police said.

The MBPD says they have not received any information that the city will be a target of any disruptions; however, they will continue to monitor the situation and will take appropriate action as necessary.
