Mira Costa High In Manhattan Beach Sets UCLA Blood Drive Record

The Mira Costa High Associated Student Body in Manhattan Beach put on the UCLA blood drive that topped last May's record donations.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Mira Costa High School broke a record it set just last May for the amount of blood units donated during a Blood Drive with UCLA, said Student Board Representative Emma Clarke at the beginning of the Board of Trustees meeting for the Manhattan Beach Unified School District Wednesday night.

Clarke reported to board members and the public that today's blood drive took in 72 donations and that they had to turn away six donors. Last May, MCHS set a record with UCLA for the amount of blood donations taken at 34. Today's 72 donations broke that record, she said.

The blood drive was held by the MCHS Associated Student Body Student Government and was held at the Clark Building from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. in Hermosa Beach. Donors signed up online in advance. Parental consent was required for students 16 years old and younger. MCHS Activities Director Lisa Claypoole worked with the students who organized the blood drive.
