MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — When you run for City Council, you have to get 20 signatures of residents in your city who sign your documents. The paperwork advises candidates to get another 5 to account for any that can't be verified. For Manhattan Beach City Council candidate Chaz Flemings, his paperwork came back from Los Angeles County advising that 9 of his signatures were invalid for his campaign in the City of Manhattan Beach.

So, while Flemmings starts anew to gather the signatures he needs, Mayor Richard Montgomery has filed his paperwork that includes signatures. If his paperwork and signatures are verified, he is green lighted to run as an incumbent. Los Angeles County is the verification source.

Said Flemmings, "Yes, I'm back collecting signatures. I was informed by the City Clerk's office that 9 came back with either an address change or not registered in Manhattan Beach. I was only 4 off from being confirmed. 16/20."

Flemmings has hit the trail, looking to secure the 20 verifiable signatures he needs. "I'm still in the running and will not be stopping," he told Manhattan Beach Patch. This gives me another chance to meet with more residents who were too busy last week to meet, along with reconnecting with previous connections to obtain new information about what people are wanting from their City Council."

Flemmings is intent on getting his signatures by "tomorrow if not Wednesday. I'm recontacting those who've met with me and are notifying them of obtaining their signature again and to verify their voter registration. I'm grateful for the network of wonderful neighbors."

He's also using the situation as an opportunity to contact those whose signatures were invalid so they can pursue making sure they are registered to vote in the Nov. 3rd election. "As a courtesy, I will be receiving a list of those who were deemed invalid and notifying them of their voter status, because many people think they are registered to vote in the City of Manhattan Beach for the election but still have residency in Hermosa Beach etc.," he told MB Patch. "I will be mailing a Voter Application to the 9 who were deemed invalid as a professional courtesy because everyone who can vote should vote in the most important election of our time, especially if they are in support of Chaz Flemmings for Manhattan Beach City Council."

There's nothing like a plug for one's self, is there? And why not be your own best champion?
