Reader Asks Why Manhattan Beach Pier Tree Goes Red For One Night
A Manhattan Beach Patch reader asks, "Why is the tree on the Manhattan Beach Pier red tonight instead of green?" Here's the answer.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The Manhattan Beach Pier's lights in the shape of a Christmas tree turned from green to red last night and an inquisitive Manhattan Beach Patch reader wanted to know why. MB Patch thanks Evelyn for calling the strange incident to our attention so we could get an answer for all of you curious readers.

Stephanie Katsouleas, director of public works for the City of Manhattan Beach, told Manhattan Beach Patch, "The was a GFCI trip due to the rain yesterday, which reset the lights. They will be green again tonight."

As to why the lights didn't stay green, Katsouleas said, "Multi-colored LED lights default to one color when turned on."
For those of us not familiar with GFCI, it refers to a "ground-fault circuit interrupter, or GFCI, is a fast-acting circuit breaker designed to shut off electric power in the event of a ground-fault within as little as 1/40 of a second," according to the internet.
