Roadway To El Porto Parking Lot Closed in Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach Police decide not to allow left hand turns from northbound Highland Ave. to El Porto's beach parking lot to curb congestion.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — The beach parking lot at El Porto was closed Sunday due to traffic congestion, gridlock, and a road rage incident, said Sgt. Justin Hidalgo of the Manhattan Beach Police Department. The only way to access the parking lot is from 45th Street, which leads directly into the metered lot, however, MBPD elected to not allow left hand turns from northbound Highland Avenue, as well as to not allow righthand turns from southbound Vista del Mar. They also closed the lot to anyone managing to get around those deterrents.

The move came after a road rage incident, traffic congestion and gridlock, said Sgt. Hidalgo. The road rage happened at Ocean drive and 45th Street, he said, and was a matter of someone being "rude" after they were cut off while driving.

Overall in Manhattan Beach, as of 4 p.m., Sgt. Hidalgo said it had been a quiet Sunday.
