UPDATED: Tuesday Classes Canceled, Prompted by Social Media Post On 'Yik Yak'

The location-based social media service allows users to post anonymously.

Tuesday classes at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach have been canceled because of an online posting of an
unspecified threat of violence.

The threat posted on the social media site Yik Yak prompted Principal Ben Dale and the Manhattan Beach Police Department to jointly agree to the closure, NBC4 reported.

The threat is being investigated, a Manhattan Beach Police Department dispatcher said.

An earlier threat on the site caused the school to be locked down for an hour Monday, ABC7 reported.

Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach was closed for an hour today because of a posting on the social media site Yik Yak, authorities said.

“If you go to Costa you should watch out very closely at school today,” the post read.

Classes were suspended about 11:30 a.m. while police and school officials investigated. The campus was reopened an hour later.
