MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, whose district includes Manhattan Beach, has asked organizers of the "Rally for the SAFE Opening of Schools and Sports Activities" held today at 4 p.m. at Polliwog Park to read the following statement:

“I had a good meeting on Monday with the organizers of this rally and I want to, in particular, thank Vince Vaughn for caring so much about not just his kids, but all of the kids growing up in Manhattan Beach.

I chose not to join you this evening because, as a leader of LA County, I remain committed to following the rules I ask my residents to follow. COVID-19 is spreading quickly and our public health experts are 'sounding the alarm' and asking everyone to avoid gatherings.

However, I want you to know that I hear you and I share your goal of getting kids back into classrooms as quickly and as safely as possible. I took your concerns Dr. Barbara Ferrer and I am hopeful that as long as we get our County’s case count back down to the safer levels we saw just a few weeks ago, you should look forward to third through sixth graders getting back to school in January.

I also understand your focus on youth sports. I want your kids not only back at school but back to play as well. While Governor Newsom has not allowed us to move any faster with youth sports than we currently have, I hear your concerns and I will continue to relay them to his office.
