Watch El Porto Surfer Rip Tide Rescue In Manhattan Beach
Surfline webcam captures the rescue of a surfer at El Porto whose leash had broken and was caught in a strong rip current Thursday, Jan. 7.

MANHATTAN BEACH, CA — A surfer in the ocean at El Porto in Manhattan Beach Thursday was rescued by Los Angeles County lifeguards Thursday. As the scene played out, a Surfline live video cam captured the rescue.
Due to a High Surf Advisory from the the National Weather Service currently in effect through 1 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, lifeguards are warning local surfers and swimmers to watch out for dangerous rip tides and high surf.
"Beachgoers should use caution and be mindful of rip currents and sneaker waves," the National Weather Service reports. "Swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Don't swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help."

Lifeguards caution people to know their limits, swim or surf near an open lifeguard tower and check-in with a lifeguard for updates on area ocean conditions.
