Ballona Institute Receives Grant to Encourage Water Conservation

The Ballona Institute is one of 17 local nonprofit to receive $45,000 to promote water and energy conservation.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power awarded the funds to the nonprofit to increase community outreach to help residents reduce their energy and water consumption and help lower their utility bills in addition to benefiting the environment.

“LADWP has long needed to do a better job reaching non-English speaking and underserved communities and last year, with federal funding provided through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act we began to do just that,” said LADWP General Manager Ronald O. Nichols. “We were very encouraged by the results, and this year we’ve extended the program with Department funds to build on our success and spur more of our customers to conserve power and water.”

The grants are one part in a program that will helps LADWP reduce energy consumption among its customers by at least 10 percent by 2020.

The program will track and quantify savings in water and energy consumption achieved through the outreach.
