Man Dies After 25-Foot Fall In Playa Del Rey

A 43-year-old man died Monday after he sustained serious injuries in a fall at the Los Angeles Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant.

PLAYA DEL REY, CA — A 43-year-old man died Monday after sustaining severe trauma from a fall at the City of Los Angeles Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant, Los Angeles fire officials said.

The confined space rescue was reported about 1:18 p.m. near 12000 S. Vista Del Mar, Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said.

"Despite bystander CPR and continued care by 47 LAFD responders, including LAFD Paramedics and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) personnel specially trained, equipped and certified to perform confined space rescues, the 43 year-old male worker (unknown site affiliation) has been determined dead at the scene," Humphrey said.

He sustained severe trauma from an approximately 25' fall to the bottom of a 15' x 15' pit-like confined space that was mostly dry, with a small amount of moisture at the bottom, utilized for an unknown purpose, Humphrey said.

LAFD responders were at the location to assist the Coroner in removing the victim's body.

The victim's name was not immediately released.
