Poll Worker in Marina del Rey Says Condo Personnel Removed Voting Signs

Security personnel from one of the condominiums complexes on Marina Point Drive removed election signage that poll workers had placed along the property earlier this morning, according to Gregg Moscoe, election volunteer at the Mirabella Apartments polling place.

Moscoe said that about 50 percent of voters Tuesday grumbled about the lack of signage directing them to the Mirabella Apartments polling station, located at 13701 Marina Point Dr., around the corner from the Azzura complex. 

“We do everything to accommodate voting,” said Azzura Operations Manager Guillermo Mendoza. “We take voting very seriously and we don't want to do anything to jeopardize it,”

He said he had no knowledge of the incident and would work to remedy any misunderstanding, but clarified that Azzura is not the only building with security employees on Marina Pointe Drive.

Moscoe was not certain for which company the person who removed the signs and denied poll workers from affixing them worked for.

“We have been getting complaint after complaint from people saying they couldn't find the polling place,” he said.

Elections signs must be placed within 100 feet of the polling entrance, according to the Los Angeles Election Code. The flyers attached to the Azzura sign and along the driveway are much further than 100 feet.

The polls are open until 8 p.m. and Mendoza said he will contact the poll workers and the other security companies on Marina Point Drive to clear up any confusion and allow election signs to be placed along the property.
