Sunny, Summer Concerts Start and Follow us

The Marina del Rey summer concert series starts tonight with "A Night at the Opera."

Today is July 7. It is the 188th day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 8:09 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 77 degrees with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 64 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Friday morning with gradual clearing and an afternoon high near 76 degrees.

2. Fourteen homeless people who live in their vehicles within the Neighborhood Council of Westchester/Playa are ready for the "Roadmap to Housing" program, but the program has stalled. More details here.

4. The summer concert series starts tonight at Burton W. Chace Park in Marina del Rey with "A Night at the Opera." The concert will showcase finalists and winners from the Loren L. Zachary National Vocal Competition in arias and ensembles. The Marina del Rey Summer Symphony will be led by maestro Frank Fetta.

The VÅ« restaurant at the Jamaica Bay Inn has a special package for the concert series that includes parking, a pre-concert dinner for two and round-trip water taxi tickets to the park for $85 per couple. More details right here (Pdf).
