$2.2 Million Approved For Upgrades At Region's Black Diamond Mines Preserve
New stairs, better access and safety improvements are on the agenda.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA – A $2.2 million project was approved earlier this month to improve safety and public access at the Hazel-Atlas Mine and the museum at the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve in Antioch, officials with the East Bay Regional Park District said.
The project will create a looped path through the mine that will allow visitors to enter through one door in the museum and exit through another.
Crews will also build new steel stairs and make safety improvements to some rock walls, park district officials said.

Completion of the project, which is expected by the end of next year, will make the tour longer.
Most of the $2.2 million for the project will come from Measure WW and from the park district's major infrastructure and replacement fund, according to park district officials.
