Alhambra High School Shooting Threat 'Not Viable': Martinez USD
A student suspected in a non-viable shooting threat against Alhambra High School was arrested early Thursday, the superintendent said.

MARTINEZ, CA — A student was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of making an anonymous threat that there would be a shooting Thursday at Alhambra High School, Martinez Unified School District Superintendent CJ Cammack said in a letter to parents. Cammack said the district became aware of the threat late Wednesday night, and worked through the night and into the early morning hours with the Martinez Police Department to identify the student they believe was responsible for making the threat.
"Please note, it was determined the threat was not viable," Cammack said in the letter, which was posted to the district's website.
"Nonetheless, making threats against a school, including false threats, is against the law," Cammack said. "At this time, the individual responsible for making the threat has been arrested."

The student's name will not be released because of privacy laws regarding minors, Cammack said.
AHS is open Thursday and operating on a normal schedule, a decision Cammack said was made after consulting with Martinez police and determining there was no further threat to the school or any other MUSD school.

"Any event of this nature, even a false threat, can be unsettling," Cammack said, noting that additional counseling support has been made available Thursday and Friday for any AHS students who wish to speak with a counselor regarding the shooting threat.
Thursday's incident follows a tip about a potential shooting threat last week at Alhambra High School that led to an increased police presence at the school.
