Contra Costa DA Sponsors Gun Buyback
Martinez Police to accept guns from residents during the August 3 event.

Gun owners in Contra Costa County will have the chance to turn in their firearms — and be rewarded for it — during a gun exchange event on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The exchange program will be held at three locations:
Contra Costa County Fairgrounds in Antioch. Those wanting to turn in guns at this location must arrive at the main entrance located on W. 10th Street. The east county collection site is hosted by the Antioch, Brentwood and Pittsburg Police Departments.Â
The central county site will be at the parking lot for the Concord Pavilion. This site will be hosted by the Concord and Martinez police departments.Â
The west county site is located at the Richmond City Hall in the City of Richmond. The Richmond Police Department is the host agency for this site.
This event will allow Contra Costa citizens to anonymously turn in operable firearms in exchange for gift cards. Residents are asked to transport the firearms to the exchange locations unloaded with the safety on. Residents may be asked to show an ID or utility bill only to establish residency in Contra Costa County. Residents can receive up to $200 in gift cards for an assault weapon, up to $100 in gift cards for handguns, and up to $50 in gift cards for shotguns or rifles.
Similar programs in other Bay Area counties have been so successful that agencies were almost overwhelmed by the number of people turning in weapons.
