MARTINEZ, CA — A man who died after his pickup truck veered off of state Highway 4 and onto a frontage road before bursting into flames in Martinez early Sunday morning has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 24-year-old El Sobrante resident Quanah Souza.
California Highway Patrol officers responded at 3:04 a.m. to a crash reported on westbound Highway 4 just east of the Pine Street/Center Avenue interchange.
Investigators determined Souza was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado that went off the north side of the highway, traveled through a fence and came to rest on its wheels on the frontage road, Arnold Drive, then burst into flames, according to the CHP.
