Coroner IDs Woman Killed Crossing Highway 4 Near Martinez
CHP determined she was involved in a crash, pulled her car over and was trying to cross the highway on foot when she was fatally struck.
MARTINEZ, CA — A woman who died while crossing state Highway 4 in Martinez Thursday night has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 44-year-old Amber Peters from Martinez.
Peters was reportedly involved in an earlier crash before she pulled over near Pacheco Boulevard, crossed the roadway on foot and was struck by another vehicle just before 8:30 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
Investigators determined Peters had been driving east when she veered off the roadway and crashed her blue Saturn into the center divide.

She apparently crossed over into westbound traffic and attempted to cross the highway on foot, but was struck by a pickup truck.
They found her unresponsive nearby, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The truck's driver remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators, according to the CHP.
