Driver Dies In Fiery Martinez Crash: CHP

MARTINEZ, CA — A man died early Sunday when his pickup truck went off state Highway 4 in Martinez and caught fire, the California Highway Patrol said.

Officers and emergency personnel were dispatched at 3:04 a.m. to westbound Highway 4, just east of Pine Street, where a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado went off the north side of the highway and landed on Arnold Drive, according to the Contra Costa Area CHP Office.

CHP's preliminary investigation of the fatal crash indicated the truck crashed through a fence and landed on its wheels on the frontage road, where it became engulfed in flames.

The unidentified driver, who was alone in the truck, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners Office was expected to release his name once his identity was known.

CHP was not immediately able to determine whether the deadly crash involved alcohol and/or drugs.
