A study done this year concludes houses that are near mass transit have higher property values

When it comes to real estate, the adage "location, location, location" seems to apply to public transit as well as schools and other amenities.

A study done this year by the Center for Neighborhood Technology concluded that houses near public transportation such as buses and trains had higher property values that similar homes that didn't have easy access to transit.

This was particularly true during the housing crisis that began in 2007. Homes near mass transit weathered that storm better other houses, the study said.

Nationally, researchers said homes within a half-mile of public transportation with high frequency service performed 42 percent better when it came to property values.

In the Bay Area, those homes near transit performed 37 percent better than other properties.
