Hometown Vigil Set For Fallen Sacramento Officer Tara O'Sullivan

MARTINEZ, CA — A hometown memorial vigil is planned Saturday, Aug. 3 for Sacramento police Officer Tara O'Sullivan, who died in the line of duty. The vigil from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. will be a casual gathering at Martinez City Hall, 525 Henrietta St.

O'Sullivan, 26, was struck by gunfire June 19 while assisting on a disturbance call. Officer O'Sullivan was transported to a local area hospital where, despite the heroic efforts by all involved, she later succumbed to her injuries, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Thousands attended a memorial service for O'Sullivan held June 27 in Sacramento.

For the Martinez event, community members are invited to attend and may bring a card, letter or their favorite "Tara Tale" to drop in a message box for O'Sullivan's family to read at a later time, according to the Martinez Police Department.

"Tara was born and raised in Martinez and graduated from College Park High School [in Pleasant Hill]," Martinez police officials said. "It is only fitting that we honor her memory here, at home."
