Martinez 2020 Election Guide: City Council, County Supervisor

MARTINEZ, CA — More than 400,000 Contra Costa County residents — 56.87 percent —have already turned in their ballots for the 2020 presidential and general election, the County Registrar of Voters reported Monday afternoon. In Martinez, 15,994 of 26,267 ballots — 60.89 percent — were returned by 4 p.m. Monday.

For those wishing to vote in person, polls at the county registrar's office are open until 8 p.m. Tuesday for Election Day.

In Martinez, voters are deciding on several local races.

The race to serve as Martinez city clerk involves two candidates: Yazmín Llamas-Morales and vying R. Gary Hernandez.

Carolyn Robinson is running unopposed for Martinez city treasurer.

Three candidates for Martinez City Council, District 2, are: Mark Ross, Danial Kenneth Leahy and Alicia Rain Marazzani.

Noralea Gipner and Brianne Zorn are vying to become the City Council representative for District 3.

There are also races for school board seats representing areas 1, 2, 4 and 5 of the Martinez Unified School District. Two candidates, Carlos Melendez and Jonathan Wright, are vying for the Area 1 seat. Two candidates, Anne Horack Martin, Kathi McLaughlin are competing for the Area 2 seat; candidates to represent Area 4 are Steeve Boulingui and Courtney Masella-O'Brien; and in the race for the Area 5 seat there are three candidates: Josh Barker, Jeremie Ginelli and Brandon Collins

Martinez voters are also deciding whether to re-elect Federal Glover as the Contra Costa County Supervisor for District 5 or elect his challenger, Gus S. Kramer.

Countywide, voters are deciding on Measure X:

Ballot Question: To keep Contra Costa's regional hospital open and staffed; fund community health centers; provide timely fire and emergency response; support crucial safety-net services; invest in early childhood services; protect vulnerable populations; and for other essential county services, shall the Contra Costa County measure levying a ½ cent sales tax, exempting food sales, providing an estimated $81,000,000 annually for 20 years that the State cannot take, with funds benefiting County residents, be adopted?
