Martinez PD: Dead Duck and Bush Yeller

Snippets from the Martinez police log, April 15 through 17.

April 15

Fence hit and run. Sometime before 8 a.m., an unknown driver hit the fence at the water treatment plant on Pacheco Boulevard and took off.

Not my wrench. Around 9:44a.m., a driver who was parked on Fig Tree Lane noticed a wrench sitting on the seat of the car. It turns out that the driver's wallet was missing also.

Suspicious bag. Around 5 p.m., a large backpack was sitting near the train tracks and had apparently been there a while. It was gone on police arrival. 

Drunk couple. Around 6 p.m., a man was seen pushing a woman in a wheelchair at Main Street and Ferry Street. They were both "screaming at each other" and appeared to be "extremely intoxicated." The man was apparently drinking a beer, which he hid in the bushes when the police came by, according to the caller.

Surprise indigestion. At 6:40 p.m., a woman was reportedly hiding in the bushes near Wendy's on Alhambra Avenue and yelling at customers.

April 16

No questions asked. Around 8:10 a.m., someone on Kingston Avenue called the police to come and dispose of three pounds of unwanted "smokeless gunpowder".

Duck murder. Around 9 a.m., a dead duck was found in front of the Lauser Law Office on Main Street.

One-armed robber. Around 1:30 p.m., a woman with her arm in a sling allegedly stole a bag of oranges on Soto Street.

News hunting. Just before 3 p.m., a TV news van was blocking the road near Martinez Junior High School, probably while following the story of 11-year-old Aaron Hern who was injured in the Boston Marathon explosions.

Job scam. Around 9 p.m., a mother called police to say that her son had applied for a job "that isn't real" and collected his personal and confidential information. 

April 17

Break-in. Just before 1 a.m., a resident of Henrietta Street came home to find the house had been ransacked.

Bike thief. A gray and red Schwinn beach cruiser was stolen sometime during the night on Court Street.

Attempted car theft. Around 11:30 a.m., a man on J Street was allegedly sitting in a car trying to "strip the ignition." He ran away when spotted.

Music-loving thief. Sometime between 8:15 a.m. and 1 p.m., a thief took a Fastrack and some iPhone earbuds out of a car in the Court Street and Pine Street area.

Aggressive shoplifter. Just before 3 p.m., an alleged shoplifter at Walmart sprayed someone in the face with mace. An arrest was made.

The mail thefts continue. Just before 4 p.m., someone on Haag Road reported that their mail had been stolen.

Attempted kidnapping, on a bike. A 15-year-old was allegedly almost kidnapped while she was walking to church on Morello Avenue. The suspect is described as a 30-year-old white male who was riding a bicycle when he tried to grab the girl.
